Quote of the Author

"Reading occurs in the reader's imagination, and language serves as a vehicle for that imagination. In fact, reading is itself a translation; we are converting a linguistic form into our experience. A good reader can easily fill the gaps of translation and imagine the feel of the original."

One of the preeminent writers in modern Tamil literature. Born in Sri Lanka, he is a storyteller who traveled the world on work and captured the cultures of the nations he visited, their people, and their incongruities in his writing. His contributions include short stories, essays, interviews, and novels, characterized by humor, aesthetic appeal, and perfection in form. He founded the Tamil Literary Garden (Tamil Illakiya Thottam) in Canada. This organization presents lifetime achievement awards to eminent literary personalities. He led the effort towards establishing Tamil chairs at many universities, including Harvard University, U.S.A.
